Castella Honke Fukusaya, founded over 390 years ago
Since our establishment in 1624, we have been making fine castella cake for over 390 years. Our founder learned the secrets of making castella from a Portuguese visitor, and over the years it has evolved into a Japanese treat representing a perfect fusion of Eastern and Western cultures. We will continue to make the finest treats, with loving care.

Our bat logo is an auspicious symbol, bringing good luck
Seitaro, the 12th head of Fukusaya, adopted the bat as the shop’s symbol in a wish to make castella one of the most famous cakes of Nagasaki. In China, the bat is an auspicious symbol said to bring a happiness and good luck, along with peach. In addition, the sound of one of the characters in “bat” is the same as the “fuku” in Fukusaya in Chinese, and with the active trade between Nagasaki and China over the centuries, the bat symbol evolved into the corporate trademark.
